Herman Miller Setu as an office chair or a stool
The Herman Miller Setu isn’t just available as an office chair. There’s also a stool featuring the same backrest design on a taller base, designed for a high table or a standing workstation. Both are regularly available in our range.
One button, nothing else
The backrest consists of two types of polypropylene that work together to regulate resistance. When you lean back, the whole unit flexes with you and pushes you back; you don’t need to adjust anything.
On a chair shared by several people, what matters most is that you’re comfortably seated within ten seconds. That’s why Herman Miller kept the Setu to just that one height setting.
The backrest works in conjunction with the Intercept suspension system, which is breathable and temperature-neutral. Herman Miller originally developed this for the Cosm. The upholstered version, however, uses a C-Layer suspension system instead, which adds structure to the fabric.
What we check on a refurbished Herman Miller Setu
The Setu has only two moving parts, so the checklist is shorter than for other Herman Miller models. That is precisely why every component counts.
We check the kinematic backrest for springiness: it must return fully.
We test the gas spring for pressure, as this is the chair’s only adjustment.
We check the base and castors for play.
We replace the upholstery where it has worn through.
If the backrest no longer springs back fully, the chair will not be included in our range. Otherwise, we stock spare parts for office chairs, so a single worn part rarely spells the end for a chair.
Where the Herman Miller Setu looks best
In a flexible workspace, at a meeting table or at a workstation used by several people. The lightweight frame is easy to move: the multifunctional version weighs around eight kilos and supports up to 135 kilos. The stool works just as well with a high table.
